I’ve been to OSHA training, and I’ve found something that may be as good or better than the classroom version – and is much, much less expensive! I can’t guarantee or endorse it because I haven’t personally taken the course, but, as a certified OSHA trainer, I think that if you have employees who need OSHA 10-Hour training, this is worth checking out for yourself. The most useful freeware applications I’ve ever used is Stickies. It’s like putting a sticky note right on your computer desktop where you can’t ignore it! Download free at http://www.zhornsoftware.co.uk/ and never forget a note again!
One of the things your employees value more than money is appreciation. The best time to express your thanks for a job well done is on the spot, not at an annual performance review. Make an effort to catch your employees “in the act” of excellent performance, and keep a token in your pocket to hand them right then and there. It can be something as simple as a small card that says “Thanks!” with a piece of candy taped to it, or a coupon for a free cup of coffee. I have used scratch-off lottery tickets, enclosed in an envelope that was printed “We’re Lucky to Have You!” for on-the-spot rewards. It’s the personal recognition and appreciation that counts, not the size of the reward.
